Anti-bullying workshops announced for WPG & TO

Brain Power Learning Group has today announced Anti-bullying workshops for March 25-26 in Toronto and April 8, in Winnipeg.
The Toronto conference, titled “Anti-Bullying and Bill 212” is designed to give participants an array of strategies designed to increase school safety within their schools. It will also provide participants with the most current science on inappropriate/anti social behaviour (violence, aggression and bullying ) in terms of identification, causes and remedial-corrective strategies. The goal is to empower senior administrators to make the necessary adjustments to a systems organizational and physical structures, institutional mindsets, training practices, and protocols in order to more effectively implement the requirements of Bill 212.
The 2 day conference has been created for Directors, Assistant Directors-Instruction, Assistant Directors, Business/Treasurers, Assistant Directors-School Safety and Board Members.
Content parameters:
Establishment of administrative hierarchy, protocol and support structures for those working with violent/aggressive and bullying students.
Processes for the review of current Board policies concerning violent students and bullying against the backdrop of Bill 212.
The dynamics of change are ever present when developing and implementing new policy. The physical and psychological challenges of meeting change will be discussed across the full range of the implementation process.
Establishing a comprehensive understanding of the nature and needs of: the overtly violent student, the bully and the victim of bullying.
Establishing the means to determine the level and type of inappropriate student activity within a district for the purposes of determining amount and kind support needed. Note: No ethnic, cultural, economic or religious grouping is exempt from bullies.
Establish a process for determining what programming will be required and the challenges which might block or inhibit the implementation of programs.
What and how may external agencies be engaged?
This conference is phase One of a three part process although each can stand on its own.
Stage One: Setting the Stage: Developing Board Policy and Procedures on the Dynamics of Bullying relevant to Bill 212.
Stage Two: A one or two workshop for in school administration focusing on school program implementation and delivery.
Stage Three: A one day workshop a workshop for teachers who encounter violent/aggressive and bullying students plus their victims.
The April 8, 2008, Winnipeg one day conference will addressing the recent Manitoba survey listing Bullying, Threatening Behaviour and Violence in the Classroom as a major concern.
The presentations team consists of:
David Halstead, M.Ed is a lifelong educator having taught and served as a counsellor in both a high school and in a post secondary technical college. He has administration experience as Dean of Students in a technical college (and at one time was the college’s discipline officer) and Director of Admissions for a large provincial university. In the mid 1970’s he was seconded to work in Ghana for 28 months. For the last 9 plus years he has supplemented his educational experience with current brain research data. This has led to him giving workshops across Canada plus Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and the USA
Peggy Halstead actively served for 16 years as an elected trustee on two urban school boards. She has worked as a writer, broadcaster and now provides a wide range of marketing, website management and background resources for Brain Power Learning Group.
