Keynote Speaker:  Michael “Pinball” Clemons of the Toronto Argos

The Toronto Catholic District School Board is proud to host “I Won’t Back Down!”… a leadership conference for students participating in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. The conference will be held on February 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre, 7601 Jane Street in Concord, Ontario.

The day will be highlighted with keynote speaker Michael “Pinball” Clemons, of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.Mr. Clemons’ has endeared himself to audiences all over North America with his incredibly passionate motivational speeches. To say the least, our students will be in for a treat of a lifetime. Also included on the agenda is the OYAP Expert Panel of former graduates of the program who are now successfully working in their respective trade in the community. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Approximately 160 youth will gather for the annual event, as they embark on the OYAP program, which enables them to move towards achieving their career goals in an apprenticeable trade.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a unique program that enables secondary school students to get a head start on their career as skilled professionals while continuing their studies. Students earn credits toward their apprenticeship and secondary school diploma at the same time with no delay in graduation. OYAP is an option, and not a path into which students are streamed.  Successful OYAP graduates acquire their OSSD and accreditation for completing part of the on-the-job training requirements of a formal apprenticeship (whether reflected in a PPLP or a Training Standard or both).
