On June 22 there was an unusual press release from the The Nova Scotia School Boards Association (NSSBA).
It said that the NSSBA is very pleased with NDP Premier Darrell Dexter’s cabinet announcement on Friday, which appointed Marilyn More, MLA, Dartmouth South – Portland Valley to the position of Minister of Education, Labour and Workforce Development.
What in my view was unusual is this statement:
More, who was the first female to be appointed to a school board in Nova Scotia, is a honourary member of the NSSBA.
Imagine, in Nova Scotia, the first female to be appointed to a Public school board is still among us. And secondly, trustees in Nova Scotia are not elected but appointed.
I can only assume she is now the first female Minister of Education in Nova Scotia.
