The Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) welcomes the government’s announcement on full-day learning for four- and five-year olds.  Research consistently indicates that the positive impact of a comprehensive early learning program on a child’s development is significant and lasts a lifetime.

“Young Ontario children whose parents choose this option will have the opportunity to experience a stimulating educational environment.  We urge the government to provide sufficient funding for an equitable roll-out of early learning programs across Ontario for all school boards,” said Paula Peroni, OCSTA President.

“The province’s Early Learning program is an opportunity to give more children the best start possible and Ontario’s Catholic school boards support this effort.  At the same time, we recognize the challenges it poses,” added Peroni.  Together with its member boards, OCSTA will carefully assess the local impact of the new programs.  Implementation issues such as short timelines, program requirements, professional roles and adequate funding will be pursued with the Ministry and boards’ various communities.
