In a move that has been under discussion for some years The Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO/ERO) at their Fall Senate on October 26th extended full membership to retired teachers who during the Harris years chose the option, when they retired, of withdrawing all of their pension savings and chose to manage it themselves. Such a withdrawal was termed a “commuted value transfer”.
RTO/ERO’s terms however, did limit those qualifying for full membership to those retired teachers who had accumulated a minimum of fifteen (15) years of credited service.
Until now such teachers could only hold Associate Memberships and were prevented from serving as District President or as a voting delegate (Senator) at RTO/ERO’s Spring or Fall senates.
Those “commuted value” teachers with less than 15 years of service can still possess “Associate Status”.
