The Ontario government today released the 1,637-page Cornwall Public Inquiry Report. According to a CBC story titled Abused children revictimized by public institutions: Cornwall report Commissioner Normand Glaude found “there were systematic failures in the response of institutions to allegation of sexual abuse of children and young people in this community.”
The CBC story also reports that Glaude recommends that
“The Catholic diocese, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the local school board should consider making a public apology to all confirmed victims of sexual assault or abuse by their employees; they should also make a public appeal, urging victims to come forward.”
It also reports that “the Roman Catholic Church responded with an apology, delivered by Paul André Durocher, the bishop with the diocese of Alexandria Cornwall.”
The institutions Glaude examined in his report include the:
- Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
